Be assertive learning review

What I have learned so far in English is being assertive which is being straight to the point but firm. This blog will be a review of the things that we have gone through about being assertive.

here is the link to the teacher's resource

1. What are the four types of behavioural responses, and what does each mean?

Aggressive: unsatisfied, being forceful, control.
Passive: just accepting what is happening and just move on about it, unresisting.
Indirect: not being straight, avoiding direct exposition of a subject.
Assertive: maintain respect, defending your rights, satisfy your needs, and being polite but firm.

2. What is the definition of assertive communication?
Being straight to the point but firm/ being confident.
Maintain respect defend what's right and satisfy your needs.

3. What are the three describes? when should you use them?

Situation: focusing on behaviour, not motive
Feeling: focus on positive feelings, not negatives, use of I statement, explain what you feel.
Changes you want: stating your action politely but firmly, be specific, but reasonable.

4. List, explain 5 assertive communication tools?

I, us, we, being positive, and acknowledge their feeling.

5. List and explanation of 3 barriers to assertive communication?

Cultural: this can be like how before women didn't have opinion s that matter and they don't have the same rights as men.
Gender: this can be men have an easier responding to men while men respond to a woman is another story.
Age: This can some people will say to a younger person that he has less experience than the other older person.
Status: This can be an employee talking trying to be assertive to the manager or a person trying to be assertive to a teacher.
Bias: this can be your family being against your hopes and dream of your dream job as your family is not into it.

6. What does assertive communication look like?

Maintaining eye contact, setting up straight, facing the person, not smiling or giggle relaxing arms, and a nod to show that you are listening.

7. What does assertive communication sound like?

Just right = clear, not too loud and high pitched, in a varying level.

8. What does it mean to act like a scratched record when it comes to your boundaries?

9. My friends tease me about random things, and I don't really do anything. This is a passive response but in result, we are still friends in the end.

10. Now I respond in this situation depending on what I feel to say. This usually ends up good and sometimes bad. I want to change this by trying to be mostly having an assertive response which is difficult. In the future, I will try to remember how to respond assertively to not have a bad response with others.

Reduce Plastic Waste Scheme

Dear (customer name),

We are inviting you to be part of our new scheme. As we want to work with you to change the way customers buy everyday products. This was planned to reduce plastic waste that's filling up our landfills.

- We want to stop putting plastic into our landfills; this can be biodegradable/degradable plastic bags, and bottles only break down in specific conditions.

-All plastic bags now replaced with hessian bags (made from flax and hemp fibres). First bag free with purchases over $50. Or we will provide recycled cardboard boxes (and help carry to your car).

-Most liquids products (liquid soap, shampoo, dishwashing liquid, etc) now available in 'fill your own' containers. Bring your own container to fill and get 5% discount.

-Fresh vegetables - instead of plastic bags, try re-useable waxed cotton bags to keep food fresh.

Please support our new update regarding our plastic scheme, and thank you for your ongoing support.

Regards,
George Davis

Internal communication : English

 From: Meg Garcia

To: Staff members

Date: 11 Agust 2020

Subject: Fire drill Instruction

Greetings,

After the recent fire evacuation drill, many of our staff members didn't know what to do. Although the alarms sounded continuous (indicating a fire warning) some of our staff stayed inside the building. Those people who did leave the building weren't sure where they should wait, and some wandered off to get coffee.  Please take note of the following instructions regarding the fire evacuation drill.

- All exit routes must be clear for exiting.

- After exiting the building everyone must go straight to the main car park and not go wander to other places.

-Wait until the Fire Safety Officer gives the all-clear.

Please follow the following roles for your safety, and as soon as the alarms turn on everyone must follow the roles to prevent any accidents. For more information or questions regarding this, email me at MegGarcia@gmail.com

Thanks,

Meg Garcia

Re: Update regarding the kitchen recycling

I have received your request regarding the update of our staff kitchen recycling bins.

Here are the following new updates:
- The recycling bins have been used correctly (e.g plastic in the plastic bin, etc).
- I have received mostly positive feedback from our staff about the new system.
- Some staff think that it is a waste of time but, they do follow the rules of the new.
- The food bin is not emptied often enough that it becomes smelly.
- There is some confusion over the types of plastic that are recyclable

Although the new recycling system is going well, there have been few problems with recycling types. I recommend that we should give the stuff the instructions regarding the new recycling program so there won't be any confusion.
